St . Patrick’s Day-Inspired Recipes

st patrick day dish

Through traditional Irish recipes to the extremely inauthentic, but still delicious,   United states versions with beer stirred within, check out these yummy St . Patrick’ s Day-inspired recipes.
St . Patrick’ s Day-Inspired Recipes to Make us Wish this Came More than Once a Year.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pounds lamb stew meat, cut into one-inch cubes
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups reduced-sodium beef broth, plus a splash for deglazing the pan
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 medium carrots, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons water

Step 1: Prep and Brown the Lamb

Preheat your slow cooker on low and heat a cast-iron skillet (or any other heavy pan) on medium-high.

Toss the lamb with a third cup of flour until coated. You can do this by sealing the two ingredients in a zip-top bag, then shaking, or by tossing them together in a large mixing bowl.

Once the skillet is hot, brown the lamb with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. You don’t need to cook the lamb long—just enough to get some nice color on the outside. When it’s nicely browned, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside.

In the same pan, saute the onions and garlic for a minute or two. Hit this with a splash or two of the beef broth—this will help deglaze, or loosen all the tasty browned bits from the pan. Again, you don’t need to cook these completely—the slow cooker will take care of that.

Test Kitchen tip: Even though this recipe relies on your trusty slow cooker to get that fork-tender texture, browning gives ingredients a big flavor boost.

Step 2: Start Slow Cooking

When the slow cooker is warmed, add the lamb and the onion, garlic and broth mixture—you want every bit of flavor from the skillet going into the slow cooker. Then stir in the potatoes, carrots, seasonings, Worcestershire sauce and beef broth.

Let the stew cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Step 3: Add the Finishing Touches

Peas cook quickly in the slow cooker, so wait until the last half hour to stir them in.

This is also the time to give your stew a bit more body. So, thicken the stew with a bit of flour. Whisk together 1 tablespoon of flour with 2 tablespoons of water until nice and smooth. Then stir into the stew. Place the lid back on the slow cooker and let the stew bubble away for 30 minutes more.

kopi luwak coffee

Most Expensive Coffee

Kopi Luwak is very different from cheap, gourmet coffee most drink every day. Each hand-harvested bean of Kopi Luwak has been digested and pooped out of the system of a small Indonesian cat.

When you try a cup of Kopi Luwak it is fun to figure out whether having cat digestive properties on your coffee beans improve the flavor, or whether this was all just an elaborate prank of these Indonesian farmers. Kopi Luwak Coffee 16 oz – Free Range Kopi Luwak

What is Kopi Luwak Coffee?

Kopi Luwak Coffee has a very unusual origin unlike any other coffee bean. The Luwak denizen (a member of the cat family also known as the Asian Palm Civet) of the coffee plantations of Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, eats only the ripest coffee cherries. Unable to digest the coffee beans, the Luwak graciously deposits them on the jungle floor where they are eagerly collected by the locals. The stomach acids and enzymatic action involved in this unique fermentation process produces the beans for the world rarest coffee beverage. The secret of this delicious blend, enthuses the Indonesia Tourism Promotion.

Product description

The most delicious (and one of the most expensive) coffees in the world does not hail from Jamaica or Hawaii, but instead, from Indonesia. Kopi Luwak (Civet) Coffee is extremely rare. It is harvested from the droppings of a cat-like animal (The Luwak). The Luwak's are very selective eaters.

They love to eat raw coffee cherries and will only eat the best (ripest) of the bunch. Their digestive system processes the cherries, removing the outer husk and leaves the green coffee beans intact in their droppings. The droppings are dried, the beans are then removed and thoroughly cleaned and ready to be roasted. The internal digestion process adds a very unique and special flavor to the beans, removing the bitterness. Whether you are looking for a unique gift for someone special, or, you are a coffee connoisseur and want to treat yourself to a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Kopi Luwak coffee is the ticket!

Our Kopi Luwak beans are imported directly from a Luwak farm in Indonesia and are hand roasted by our master coffee roaster in micro batches. We supply very small amounts of roasted and packaged beans to Amazon so, rest assured, the beans are always fresh and you will not be disappointed! Brewing Recommendations: French Press: Coarsely Grind 28 grams of Kopi Luwak Coffee Beans. Place ground beans in empty French Press. Bring 16 ounces of water to a boil. Allow to cool to 195-200 degrees Fahrenheit (10-15 seconds). Add just boiled water to French press and stir.

Place Lid on French Press with plunger extended in a manner that will not allow steam to escape. Let sit for 5 minutes. Slowly push plunger down to the bottom of the French press (20 seconds or so from top to bottom). Pour Coffee and Enjoy! P.S. Do not allow coffee to sit inside the French Press as it will continue to brew.

Final Thoughts

My thoughts about a $10 cup of coffee.

It was absolutely delicious. A different and distinctive flavor. Such a rich aroma, but a mellow and thin body. It had a nutty, and sort of hazlenut tone. No aftertaste, really quite interesting. If it weren’t for the scarcity and experience value – I’m not sure it’s worth the high price. However, wait until you taste it…. WOW.

That familiar coffee bitterness is wrapped up in a mild chocolate flavor. If most mild coffees have the taste profile of milk chocolate, Kopi Luwak tastes like a high quality dark chocolate, sweet with a hint of bitterness at the same time.

It goes down very smoothly, and every sip is a delight. It is smooth, mild and sweet, with a gentle hint of bitterness.

Tried it with a bit of cream and sugar. Not recommended that spoiled it completely, masking the flavors and turning it into just another mild coffee.

I can now say that is check off my bucket list with Kopi Luwak.
