Espresso Based Beverage Recipes

Creating gourmet espresso-based beverages at home is extremely simple once you learn the basic recipes.
Follow the drink preparation notes below and use them as a guide to creating your own specialty drinks.

Drink Name Preparation
1-1.5 ounce shot of coffee brewed at high pressure in 20-25 seconds.

Espresso

Espresso the basis for many gourmet coffee specialty drinks.jura Z6
0.5-0.7 ounce shot of coffee brewed at high pressure in less than 20 seconds. The
Ristretto has a very intense flavor that is bolder with more body than a traditional espresso.
2-4 ounce shot of coffee brewed at high pressure for 45-60 seconds.

Lungo

The lungo has more of a bitter taste than espresso as more water is extracting the coffee’s flavor.

Macchiato

A shot of espresso topped with a spoonful of frothed milk served in a demitasse cup.
Espresso con Panna A shot of espresso topped with whipped cream in a demitasse cup.
Espresso Affogato A scoop of gelato or ice cream “drowned” in a shot of espresso.

Cappuccino

A shot of espresso topped with 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 frothed milk in a large cup.

Latte

A shot of espresso topped with 2/3 steamed milk and a few spoonfuls of frothed milk in a large cup. (less frothed milk than a cappuccino)

Latte Macchiato

Fill a cup with steamed milk and top with a few spoonfuls of frothed milk.  Pour a shot of espresso on top of the foam to “mark” the latte.
Fill a cup with steamed milk and caramel syrup then top with a few spoonfuls of frothed
Caramel Macchiato milk.  Pour a shot of espresso on top of the foam to “mark” the latte. Add caramel sauce to the top if desired.
A shot of espresso mixed with chocolate syrup topped with steamed milk.

Mocha

Add whipped cream and cocoa powder to the top if desired.
A shot of espresso mixed with hazelnut syrup topped with steamed milk and a few spoonfuls of frothed milk.

Hazelnut Latte

A shot of espresso mixed with vanilla syrup topped with steamed milk and a few spoonfuls of frothed milk.

Vanilla Latte

Americano  A shot of espresso topped with 6-8 ounces of hot water.koa-coffee-best-kona

To make an iced version of the above recipes, simply use cold milk in the place of steamed or frothed milk.

Never pour hot milk over ice as bacteria can form.

Peaberry Coffee Discount offering

peaberry special volcanica

It's the first week of Summer 2019! Drop in for a smooth and delicious peaberry coffee. For a limited time take advantage of 10% OFF every peaberry offering.

Peaberry coffee beans are a unique coffee bean that has a much richer flavor. The peaberry is only in 5% of the crop that is manually removed from the rest of the coffee harvest. The flavor of the peaberry tends to be finer quality than the rest of the crop and is desired by coffee connoisseurs. A typical coffee bean splits apart into two halves which is why they have a flat side. The peaberry does not split and grows like a pea that contains a more flavorful taste.

COUPON CODE: “SUMMER19”

Extra 10% OFF Peaberry Coffee Category.

The peaberry is not a berry but a special bean to brew yourself a delicious cup of coffee. If you've heard the term before, perhaps you're wondering what is a peaberry, and what makes them so special?
A peaberry (also called caracol, or “snail” in Spanish) is a naturally grown version of the coffee bean inside its cherry. Normally coffee beans grow two to a fruit, flat against each other like halves of a peanut, but a funny thing happens in about 5% of the world's coffee, and a bean is born an only child.
The peaberry beans are spoiled by not having to share with anybody else. They tend to be smaller, denser, and, let's face it, just a little bit cuter than their flat cousins. Coffee snobs think they taste noticeably sweeter and have more flavor than standard-issue beans.
Occasionally, growers will hand-select the tiny mutants for a special sale, sometimes at a premium
Because there's no way to tell from looking at the cherry itself whether there's a single- or double-header inside, these little guys need to be hand-sorted after picking and processing in order to be sold separately. As a result, in many cases, the peaberries are sold for roasting right alongside their normal counterparts. Occasionally, growers will hand-select the tiny mutants for a special sale, sometimes at a premium—not only because of their taste but also because of the amount of labor involved, as well as their relative rarity.

Kopi Luwak Coffee

kopi luwak coffee

Most Expensive Coffee

Kopi Luwak is by far the most expensive coffee in the world. Retail pricing can be found in the range of  $450 per pound, or 10 bucks per brewed cup.

Kopi Luwak is very different from cheap, gourmet coffee most drink every day. Each hand-harvested bean of Kopi Luwak has been digested and pooped out of the system of a small Indonesian cat.

When you try a cup of Kopi Luwak it is fun to figure out whether having cat digestive properties on your coffee beans improve the flavor, or whether this was all just an elaborate prank of these Indonesian farmers. Kopi Luwak Coffee 16 oz – Free Range Kopi Luwak

The Kopi Luwak Coffee aroma is rich and strong, and the coffee is incredibly full bodied, almost syrupy. It's thick with a hint of chocolate, and lingers on the tongue with a long, clean aftertaste. Kopi Luwak is the most expensive and rarest coffee in the world and limited supplies are grown each year. This is the coffee made famous from the movie The Bucket List. Due to the rarity and expensive price of Kopi Luwak there are no refunds or exchanges available on this coffee unlike other Coffees.

Shipped in a large size 16 oz. souvenir bag with a certificate of authenticity numbered to match your bag. 100% Wild Gathered Kopi Luwak Coffee 100% Cage Free Shipping Medium roast Fresh roasted only when you place your order Please check out our Kopi Luwak Coffee 2 oz Sample Size if you are looking for a smaller and more affordable option.

What is Kopi Luwak Coffee?

Kopi Luwak Coffee has a very unusual origin unlike any other coffee bean. The Luwak denizen (a member of the cat family also known as the Asian Palm Civet) of the coffee plantations of Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi, eats only the ripest coffee cherries. Unable to digest the coffee beans, the Luwak graciously deposits them on the jungle floor where they are eagerly collected by the locals. The stomach acids and enzymatic action involved in this unique fermentation process produces the beans for the world rarest coffee beverage. The secret of this delicious blend, enthuses the Indonesia Tourism Promotion.

Purchase Kopi Luwak Coffee 16 oz – Free Range Kopi Luwak from Volcanica Coffee Company through my links and I earn a commission that will support this site. Get Kopi Luwak Coffee 16 oz – Free Range Kopi Luwak today. Thanks for visiting.

Product description

The most delicious (and one of the most expensive) coffees in the world does not hail from Jamaica or Hawaii, but instead, from Indonesia. Kopi Luwak (Civet) Coffee is extremely rare. It is harvested from the droppings of a cat-like animal (The Luwak). The Luwak's are very selective eaters.

They love to eat raw coffee cherries and will only eat the best (ripest) of the bunch. Their digestive system processes the cherries, removing the outer husk and leaves the green coffee beans intact in their droppings. The droppings are dried, the beans are then removed and thoroughly cleaned and ready to be roasted. The internal digestion process adds a very unique and special flavor to the beans, removing the bitterness. Whether you are looking for a unique gift for someone special, or, you are a coffee connoisseur and want to treat yourself to a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Kopi Luwak coffee is the ticket!

Our Kopi Luwak beans are imported directly from a Luwak farm in Indonesia and are hand roasted by our master coffee roaster in micro batches. We supply very small amounts of roasted and packaged beans to Amazon so, rest assured, the beans are always fresh and you will not be disappointed! Brewing Recommendations: French Press: Coarsely Grind 28 grams of Kopi Luwak Coffee Beans. Place ground beans in empty French Press. Bring 16 ounces of water to a boil. Allow to cool to 195-200 degrees Fahrenheit (10-15 seconds). Add just boiled water to French press and stir.

Place Lid on French Press with plunger extended in a manner that will not allow steam to escape. Let sit for 5 minutes. Slowly push plunger down to the bottom of the French press (20 seconds or so from top to bottom). Pour Coffee and Enjoy! P.S. Do not allow coffee to sit inside the French Press as it will continue to brew.

Final Thoughts

My thoughts about a $10 cup of coffee.

It was absolutely delicious. A different and distinctive flavor. Such a rich aroma, but a mellow and thin body. It had a nutty, and sort of hazlenut tone. No aftertaste, really quite interesting. If it weren’t for the scarcity and experience value – I’m not sure it’s worth the high price. However, wait until you taste it…. WOW.

That familiar coffee bitterness is wrapped up in a mild chocolate flavor. If most mild coffees have the taste profile of milk chocolate, Kopi Luwak tastes like a high quality dark chocolate, sweet with a hint of bitterness at the same time.

It goes down very smoothly, and every sip is a delight. It is smooth, mild and sweet, with a gentle hint of bitterness.

Tried it with a bit of cream and sugar. Not recommended that spoiled it completely, masking the flavors and turning it into just another mild coffee.

I can now say that is check off my bucket list with Kopi Luwak.

The health benefits for heavy coffee drinkers

Espresso in moderation is known as to benefit our health and wellness, so like most Texans believe if just a little is good, more must be better. Here I explore what goes on in large levels of coffee consumption for heavy coffee drinkers?

Continuing research into coffee confirms its benefits.

Coffee has become the commonly consumed drinks on earth.
Due to its popularity, they have attracted significant amounts of research over time.

In the end, something that permeates society so thoroughly must be studied because of its benefits and drawbacks.
Scientists have finally stacked up a good amount of proof proving that espresso, when consumed in moderation, can drive back certain diseases and could even extend life expectancy.

Studies have finally shown that average coffee intake might drive back coronary disease, diabetes, and Parkinson's disease, to mention but three. This is the coffee Forbes called Best in America!

Gaps inside our knowledge

However the findings to date leave some unanswered questions. For example, “moderate intake”  which often means 3 to 5 cups each day  with respect to the study, appears to be of great benefit, but many people drink six or even more cups every day.

So, do they still enjoy coffee's protective forces?

Also, certain folks have genetic variations that alter how they metabolize, or breakdown, caffeine. How are they affected? Similarly, will the kind of espresso  ground, instant, or decaffeinated make a difference to health outcomes?

Could coffee stop clogged arteries?

A new study concludes that consuming more than three cups of coffee every day lowers the risk of atherosclerosis.
Shop all KOA coffee offerings

Other studies have attempted to answer the questions above, but, because fewer people fall into these categories, it has been difficult to make strong conclusions from the available data.

Reopening the coffee question

The scientists found that, as predicted, coffee drinkers had a lower risk of death over the course of the follow-up. They also found that this reduction in risk extended to people who drank eight or more cups each day.

It also affected people who metabolize caffeine slower or faster than normal, and it worked across all coffee types (although the benefits were slightly less pronounced for instant coffee).

The fact that individuals who process caffeine differently and those who drink decaffeinated coffee also saw benefits hints that caffeine is not the main player in this beneficial relationship. Coffee consists of hundreds of different chemicals, making this a difficult code to crack.

One group of chemicals that scientists have been interested in is polyphenols, which are found in reduced levels in instant coffee. Much more work will be needed to understand how they fit into the bigger picture, though.

The new study is based on observational data, but because of the large number of participants used, the authors conclude:
The results show evidence that coffee drinking can be part of a healthy diet and may provide reassurance to those who drink coffee and enjoy the experience with many flavors and tastes.

Final Thoughts

With its unwavering popularity, research into coffee is guaranteed to continue and remain controversial. These finding strongly establish that coffee has a many health benefits that much outweigh the negatives floating around the coffee community.

Home espresso machines

Home espresso machines have become more popular than ever in the past few years. With the cost of stopping for an espresso skyrocketing, more and more families are opting for buying a home espresso machine.

Home espresso machines are scaled rear versions of the commercial ones used in caffeine shops. How scaled back again is your decision. You may spend big money and have a high of the collection, do it all machine or buy less end machine but still make wonderful espressos.

The essential premise is the fact that the device will force hot water over finely ground coffee under great pressure, creating an espresso with a beautiful crema. How the machine runs about creating your espresso depends on the sort of machine. Jura Capresso Coffee Centers

Types of Machines

Pump espresso machines are typically the most expensive of the espresso machines. Although they do create the most excellent espressos, they are usually the greatest and noisiest of the machines. Commercial machines are usually pump espresso machines although there are home espresso machines that are pump also. Pump espresso machines also require more maintenance as they can become clogged with calcium deposits.

Manual espresso machines use a manual lever and piston to build pressure. If used often they could be arduous on the arm. These machines do not build a steady espresso as the pressure varies based on amount of arm power. Lever/piston machines are incredibly tranquil with few parts and zero-maintenance.

Heavy steam powered espresso machines are the most frequent machines within homes. They are really fast and simple to use. They are simply small enough to squeeze in home kitchens. These espresso machines use steam from the warm water to set-up pressure. The pressure in these machines isn’t always sufficient to produce a great espresso.

Another basic simple espresso machine is the moka pot or percolator. These use a pressurized lower part 50 % to send the heavy steam though the caffeine in to the top 50 percent where the espresso is accumulated. The main advantages are that they are incredibly easy to use and are the least expensive of all the models. However, they haven't any frothing tools or method for frothing, have less pressure than mechanized versions, this means less taste is extracted from the caffeine.

Determine what you like and go for it!

Buying an espresso machine for your home is highly recommended an investment. You will need to judge how often you intend to use the machine, if it’s an intermittent use, you often will go with a more affordable machine. If, however, you are a regular espresso drinker, you will likely want to go with a far more expensive machine that can endure more use. It's also advisable to look for one with a good warranty.

When determining the needs you have opt for how much space you have for the machine. For occasional use you might look at a smaller machine that you can set aside. Or perhaps even a coffee machine/espresso maker combo machine.

Cost

It’s a good idea to determine how much you want to invest on an espresso machine before you begin hunting one. One good way to get a concept is to consider how often you get an espresso or espresso based drinks and number how much you spend monthly. This can help you decide how much you can devote to a machine and also have it purchase itself.

With your information gathered you will be ready to go end up an espresso machine made for home use. There are various reputable companies which have home espresso machines. Some are also commercial espresso creators and probably make the best espresso machines. Whatever for you to decide you will be happy with your hot, fresh espresso made while still in your pajamas.
