Ingredients

1 frozen banana
a handful of fresh baby spinach, about 1 cup packed
¼ cup fresh mint, about 10 leaves
2 tablespoons almond butter
2 ice cubes
¼ teaspoon good vanilla extract
¾ cup Almond Breeze Almondmilk Cashewmilk Original Unsweetened

Instructions

In a blender, combine the banana, spinach, mint leaves, almond butter, ice, vanilla, and Almond milk or Cashew milk. Blend until smooth. Add more milk as needed for desired consistency.
Pour into a glass and serve.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 pounds lamb stew meat, cut into one-inch cubes
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, divided
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups reduced-sodium beef broth, plus a splash for deglazing the pan
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 medium carrots, cut into one-inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons water

Step 1: Prep and Brown the Lamb

Preheat your slow cooker on low and heat a cast-iron skillet (or any other heavy pan) on medium-high.

Toss the lamb with a third cup of flour until coated. You can do this by sealing the two ingredients in a zip-top bag, then shaking, or by tossing them together in a large mixing bowl.

Once the skillet is hot, brown the lamb with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. You don’t need to cook the lamb long—just enough to get some nice color on the outside. When it’s nicely browned, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside.

In the same pan, saute the onions and garlic for a minute or two. Hit this with a splash or two of the beef broth—this will help deglaze, or loosen all the tasty browned bits from the pan. Again, you don’t need to cook these completely—the slow cooker will take care of that.

Test Kitchen tip: Even though this recipe relies on your trusty slow cooker to get that fork-tender texture, browning gives ingredients a big flavor boost.

Step 2: Start Slow Cooking

When the slow cooker is warmed, add the lamb and the onion, garlic and broth mixture—you want every bit of flavor from the skillet going into the slow cooker. Then stir in the potatoes, carrots, seasonings, Worcestershire sauce and beef broth.

Let the stew cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Step 3: Add the Finishing Touches

Peas cook quickly in the slow cooker, so wait until the last half hour to stir them in.

This is also the time to give your stew a bit more body. So, thicken the stew with a bit of flour. Whisk together 1 tablespoon of flour with 2 tablespoons of water until nice and smooth. Then stir into the stew. Place the lid back on the slow cooker and let the stew bubble away for 30 minutes more.

Braising method.

1) Preheat the Dutch oven.Butcher Box Roast
 2) Add oil, once oil is hot sear chuck roast on all sides for 2 to 3 minutes per side until a brown crust forms remove and set aside.
3) Glaze The Dutch oven with the braising liquid in my case a nice Cabernet Sauvignon one cup of that wine should do.
4) Place the roast back into the Dutch oven add any remaining ingredients cover the roast halfway with the brazing list liquids.
5) Bring to a slow simmer and cover with lid.
6) Finish the roast on the stove top at the same low simmer or in a 300 degrees Fahrenheit oven cook for 4 and 1/2 hours or until is fork tender
7) Rest in juices for at least 30 minutes if you don’t have a Dutch oven use a deep heavy pot make sure it’s oven safe if you transfer to the oven.

Final Thoughts

My thoughts about a $10 cup of coffee.

It was absolutely delicious. A different and distinctive flavor. Such a rich aroma, but a mellow and thin body. It had a nutty, and sort of hazlenut tone. No aftertaste, really quite interesting. If it weren’t for the scarcity and experience value – I’m not sure it’s worth the high price. However, wait until you taste it…. WOW.

That familiar coffee bitterness is wrapped up in a mild chocolate flavor. If most mild coffees have the taste profile of milk chocolate, Kopi Luwak tastes like a high quality dark chocolate, sweet with a hint of bitterness at the same time.

It goes down very smoothly, and every sip is a delight. It is smooth, mild and sweet, with a gentle hint of bitterness.

Tried it with a bit of cream and sugar. Not recommended that spoiled it completely, masking the flavors and turning it into just another mild coffee.

I can now say that is check off my bucket list with Kopi Luwak.

Take out about .25 cups for crumble toping and set aside. Add one pack of the cream cheese in chunks and blend until a dough like consistency. Roll into Oreo cookie ball a bit smaller than a golf ball and put into the freezer for hardening. If your processor is small run in two batches, one pack of Oreos and one pack of cream cheese. In a double Broiler put in your chocolate that melts easily usually found the in cake section of store, I like the almond bark and it works great. Roll each of the semi frozen balls in the melted chocolate and set aside to cool. Drizzle with an opposite color chocolate or sprinkle with some of the Oreo cookie ball Dust saved from before. If you are looking at quality and value, look no further! I can’t say enough how much I enjoy this new mixer. Bosch mixers are the superlative mixer for your kitchen.

We had the other brand mixer for many years and after countless whole wheat loaves and cookies, it died. I really wasn’t sure when I was doing my research, as so many just love the Kitchen Aid, however as I age the Kitchen Aid is just too heavy for me.

You might find that you need to modify your recipes slightly in terms of kneading or mixing time, because the machine is more efficient than the competition. The dough hook and the mixing paddles that come with it do a great job with thinner batters. Highly recommended.

The real Japanese Kobe beef comes from a specific area of Japan. There are only about 3000 head of Wagyu cattle that qualify as Kobe, so this unique distinction will cost you. Probably spending over $250 for a small steak if you can even find it at in the US.Snake River Farms Rib eye

Available in the US is a different variety “American Kobe” or “American Wagyu” beef. This beef usually a cross of a Japanese Wagyu breed and an Angus. You get some of the super marbling and flavor of the Wagyu breed and the fast-growing high yield of the Angus. Shop all Snake River Farms Products.

Cross Breeding the Wagyu with the Angus

The benefit of cross breeding the Wagyu with the Angus is a super high quality of beef more affordable to the than the Japanese Kobe. Of course an American Wagyu steak won’t be as good as a Japanese Kobe steak but it is close for a more reasonable price.

That is the whole Kobe/Wagyu thing in a nutshell anyway. Please note, I include affiliate links within this post to support the maintenance and development of this site.

Are there good Prime steaks and great Prime steaks? Of course, that is where the Japanese grading scale comes in. Nearly all American Wagyu steaks would grade out as Prime due to the fat content and marbling so by using the Japanese grading scale you can start go figure out just how good a cut of American Wagyu beef really is. Prime sets a bottom standard of what a steak needs to be but that leaves a lot of room at the top end of the scale for American Wagyu and Kobe beef.

The Japanese beef grading system

The Japanese beef grading system uses the BMS scale (Beef Marble Score) to determine the quality of the meat. They check the carcass between the 6th and 7th rib to determine the fat content of the meat and they also use some different calculations to determine the yield of the carcass. The BMS goes basically from 3-12 with 3-4 being average (a score of “3”), 5-7 being good (a score of “4”), and 8-12 being excellent (a score of “5”). The yield score is a letter grade A, B, or C depending on how much beef the carcass will yield. So the best score you can get on a Kobe steak is an A5. This is the best of the best. A3 and A4 are still very, very good but A5 or a high yield with a BMS score of over 8 is about the best you can get. 1
